Application fields of semiconductors

2023-04-28
1. Photovoltaic applications
The photovoltaic effect of semiconductor material is the basic principle of solar cell operation. At present, the photovoltaic application of semiconductor materials has become a hot topic and is currently the fastest growing and best developing clean energy market in the world. The main production material of solar cells is semiconductor materials, and the main criterion for judging the quality of solar cells is the photoelectric conversion rate. The higher the photoelectric conversion rate, the higher the working efficiency of solar cells. According to the different semiconductor materials used, solar cells are divided into crystalline silicon solar cells, thin film batteries and III-V compound batteries.
2. Lighting applications
LED is a semiconductor light-emitting diode built on semiconductor transistors. Using LED technology, semiconductor light sources have a small volume and can achieve flat packaging. They have low heat generation, energy efficiency, long product life, fast reaction speed, and are green, environmentally friendly, and pollution-free. They can also be developed into lightweight and short products. Once introduced, they quickly become popular and become a new generation of high-quality lighting sources, Currently, it has been widely used in our daily lives. There are applications in various fields such as traffic lights, backlights for electronic products, urban night landscaping light sources, and indoor lighting.
3. High-power power conversion
The mutual conversion of AC and DC is very important for the use of electrical appliances and is a necessary protection for them. This requires the use of a power conversion device. SiC has high breakdown voltage strength, wide band gap and high thermal conductivity, so SiC semiconductor devices are very suitable for applications with high power density and switching frequency, and power conversion device is one of them. The performance of silicon carbide components in high temperature, high pressure, and high frequency has made them widely used in fields such as deep well drilling, inverters in power generation devices, energy converters in electric hybrid vehicles, and traction power conversion for light rail trains. Due to the advantages of SiC itself and the current industry demand for lightweight and high conversion efficiency semiconductor materials, SiC will replace Si as the most widely used semiconductor material.
